Judicial Center Construction Set to Begin This Summer

BOSTON — The construction of the new judicial center in Lowell, seen by many as the centerpiece of the city’s latest downtown revitalization, is on track to begin this summer.

The $175 million courthouse, which will take 30 months to build, is projected to open its doors in late 2014 or early 2015, according to state lawmakers.

Lowell’s Beacon Hill delegation met yesterday with officials from the Division of Capital Asset Management to discuss the timeline for the judicial center. They said they were assured construction will begin this summer, despite the economic downturn.
